Girl’s Best Friend is a piece of a childhood photo of my friend with her old German Shepherd. He passed away when she was still young, but I wanted to honor the bond they shared. Growing up, pets often become more than animals – they become protectors and companions. Through this piece, I wanted to highlight how love can leave a lasting imprint after loss. When making this piece for my AP portfolio on platonic love I also wanted to preserve memories. I am drawn to moments that hold emotional weight, even if they are not my own. By choosing to recreate or reinterpret this memory, I am acknowledging how empathy and connection shape my perspective when it comes to making art.”
